The LightSheer Diode Laser and Cutera Laser Hair Removal lasers are designed with a tip specifically for hair removal. They target melanin, found in dark colored hair. The device cools the surface of the skin and protects the epidermis from heat damage while its laser energy damages the hairs in the growth phase.
Laser Hair Removal requires several sessions to achieve long-term hair reduction. Treatments are spaced one to two months apart when hair begins to grow back, so the course of treatment could last eight months or more. Touch-up treatments may be done after the initial treatment cycle. Sun exposed areas are best treated during fall/winter months.
Laser hair removal treatments are most effective for patients with dark hair and fair skin. It is preferred over other methods since it is more convenient, faster and less painful.
Treatments are provided by a certified medical assistant, esthetician, or nurse according to Dr. DeSpain's treatment protocol.
